Site Visits
Purpose of site visits
Site visits offer a unique, informal and supportive opportunity for Better Futures service providers to connect directly with the BSL team. During these visits, providers have the chance to showcase their practice in their own space, share insights and seek guidance on implementing Advantaged Thinking approaches.
What to expect
Led by the provider and their Better Futures team, each site visit is a chance to discuss practice achievements, innovations and challenges in a friendly and collaborative setting. The BSL team is there to listen, offer support and provide relevant resources or guidance to enhance practice. These visits allow BSL to understand how Advantaged Thinking is being implemented on the ground and to see the everyday impact of the service.
What to reflect on before a site visit
To make the most of your site visit, consider reflecting on the following points with your team:
- How does your service connect young people to community opportunities that enhance their skills and talents?
- What opportunities are being matched to participants’ skills and aspirations?
- How do you ensure participants have self-determination over their goals and pathways?
- Can you provide examples of how your team challenges disadvantaged thinking when it arises?
- How are young people with lived experience involved in refining your service and practices?
- What barriers prevent achieving the above outcomes?
- Are there any systemic, policy, resource, or operational obstacles you’re facing?
- What changes would you like to see to better support your service delivery?
- Are there themes your team would like to explore in future Community of Practice sessions?
- What areas do you need more support from BSL? (e.g., coaching techniques, Advantaged Thinking deep dive, planning resources, reflective practices, or service model exploration)
