Better Futures aims to equip young people with the right supports, networks, skills, experience and vision they need to successfully transition from Victoria’s care services.

Better Futures supports young people making the transition from care to adulthood.

Young people have agency to drive in their transition planning and access to opportunities in housing, health and wellbeing, education, employment, and community and cultural connections.

Staff deliver coaching and community connection-based supports, and flexible funding to invest in young people’s skills and talents.

The Better Futures CoP are dedicated to empowering young people to build sustainable and thriving futures by using an innovative Advantaged Thinking approach that helps unlock their potential.

Better Futures creates a safe space for young people. It’s a place to learn and grow, so it doesn’t matter if everything, up to this point, hasn’t gone the way that it was supposed to.

Better Futures made the transition into adulthood a lot easier, I would have been thrown into the deep end otherwise.

Our Community of Practice

The Better Futures CoP holds membership from over 30 providers across Victoria as well as key sector stakeholders and young people with a care experience.

The CoP brings together diverse voices and experiences, fostering collaboration, sharing, and learning among our members.

Through quarterly meetings, we collectively enhance our Advantaged Thinking practice, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of youth empowerment practice.

What is Advantaged Thinking?

Advantaged Thinking means helping young people discover and nurture their talents and dreams.

Instead of just looking at their basic needs, we focus on building opportunities alongside young people. We also work to remove any obstacles that might be holding them back from reaching their goals.

The Better Futures Advantaged Thinking Practice Framework and related practice guides are designed to empower Better Futures practitioners to deliver the Better Futures service with an Advantaged Thinking approach.

This suite of documents addresses various aspects of practice, collaboration, and service delivery, all aimed at empowering care-experienced young people to build thriving lives.
